Nightfall at the ranch brings more than just the lightning bugs. It's when the land sighs and the dust lays down. It's when boots come off and the supper table binds us. For a while, we share stories. Then we settle into just being together - bone tired - but "good tired". When my little goddaughter Margaret Nell is here, the house is full of laughter and joy for she is a born entertainer. Our lives are full because we live on this wild piece of earth called home. Broken
I see such beauty in these cast off pieces. Hope you do too!
This broken cherub is actually a very collectible cast off from a German factory- dated early 1900's.
Her new best friends include an old wooden domino and ID bracelet. $125

Wearing Genes
My ancestors were farmers and owned dairy cows. Jewelry was not in fashion working the land near Ennis, Texas. A multi-strand necklace could have gotten caught in the thresher or twisted around Old Bossy's hooves - or might have pulled my great grandmother Beatrice right into that washing machine hand crank wringer thing. They were simple people who worked hard, prayed on their knees and died young. Still, inspired by the wonderful FB page Faces and Style, I created a Babe and called her Spring Bea.

Past Due
My mom passed away almost three years ago. One of the most meaningful art pieces I create is one where I take someone's grandmother's jewelry, for example, and repurpose it into a new necklace, bracelet, or other sculpture. Now THAT I can do. But I keep staring at that pink box that holds my mom's "jewels" and avoid it like it contained Ebola. Why? It occurred to me - that box holds such power - there is pain in there - stuff I have not grieved over - the deep guts of sadness - you know the kind. Today, I will revisit my mom - I will honor her - I will begin a piece that will tell the story of Vonnie - when it is done, I will smile.

The Returning Place is somewhere in my soul...let me tell you about it. The roses and peonies glow, so vibrant, smiling as if to say, "Welcome back!" The breeze is gentle and light on my face, the caress so relaxing - I feel better already. Strolling along a path so winding, never knowing what beauty will reveal itself, I begin to sing. My song is one of connection, one of peace and joy...and of course, in this place to which I so often return, I can actually sing! Each of us have this place, this garden of recovery...may you visit yours soon!

I couldn't wait to share the big surprise I received when visiting my Dad in Georgetown. I picked up the Georgetown Living magazine and not only found an article about a friend who is a Texas author having huge success on the national literary stage...but how wonderful to see that, in her photo, she was wearing the pendant I designed for her! Thank you Sylvia Dickey Smith! www.sylviadickeysmith.com

Hiding
Joy has been playing hide and seek with me lately. She is my elusive muse...have you seen her? Here I sit, ready to create.....hmmmmm. Maybe she is outside on the patio or down by the river? Walking the banks of the Concho, I open a cerebral file drawer labeled "Rivers". Suddenly, I discover Anastasia strolling beside the Danube, listening to blue waters dance their way to the Black Sea. Why, Joy!......There you are! Now I am ready to create....and her name will be Anastasia!

Woven Miracles
American Chief Seattle tells us, "Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."
Each morning, I ask God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, my Spirit Guides and my Guardian Angel(s) to help me weave miracles knowing full well that I may never know exactly what outcomes I have created. If my vantage point was omnicient, I might truly see how connected we humans are. This web of life is exciting - at least I think it is - when even the smallest kindness shown can span the globe one strand at a time.
I am thankful for you, my closely woven "miracle friends"!

Happily Ever After
...and just what, I ask you, is the definition of "happily ever after"? I have come to believe that this moment, this second that is before me, is to be celebrated - that life is made up of timeless moments. When I walked on the treadmill yesterday, was I doing that in the past? No way! I walked it in the only "time" I have - the present. The challenge for me is to stay here...to stay present...to be exquisitely conscious of every breath, every sound, scent, sight, movement and feeling...to be "happily ever NOW"!
My first collection for 2012, Once Upon A Time, (click on pendant at top of blog) represents all that is mystical, magical and beautiful about fairy tales. The innocence, sweetness, danger, love and triumph that mark the lives of many great women I have known are reflected in these pieces. May we always see life through prisms of wonder...Enjoy!
